Snowmobile routes

There are hundreds of kilometres of officially marked snowmobile routes in Kemijärvi. The routes run:
-  to Pyhätunturi in the north
-  Rovaniemi in the west and
- Suomutunturi, Sallatunturi, Posio, Ruka and Kuusamo in the south.

The driver needs to be cautious and stay on the marked course. Kemijärvi is a regulated reservoir, a lake with unexpected ice conditions. Especially dangerous areas are: 
- Luuksinsalmi-Ailanganniemi
- Lehtosalmi
- Hiipanniemi-Antinsaari
- Lapinlahti
- Kivisalmi
- Ritasalmi
- Ruopsanniemi and
- the area near Jumisko power plant canal.
