Suvanto Village
The entire village of Suvanto is a valuable cultural historic site. Some of the buildings even date back to the eighteenth century and the village milieu is well preserved. In the village, you can still sense the atmosphere of unhurried centuries. Services in the village are provided by Gallery-Cafeteria Säpikäs, Mettiäinen Silver Pine Cabins (Mettiäisen Kelomökit) and the Suvanto Museum School. The village also has accommodation in the cabins of Suvanto-Kaira ry.
At Keino-oja in the village of Suvanto is a restored water mill set in grounds with primeval birch trees. The mill was moved to the area from Härkävaara. It was formerly the so-called Härkä-Kustu Mill, used to grind barley for the inhabitants of Härkävaara and Tanhua. Keino-oja earlier had two separate mills that were dismantled many years before. Myllytupa takes accommodation reservations and the grounds also have a mill cabin that operates as a wilderness cabin. There is a road leading to the destination, and the spot is also mostly suitable for persons with mobility restrictions (some stairs). The grounds are managed by the Suvanto Village Association (Suvannon kyläyhdistys ry) and the Municipality of Pelkosenniemi owns the buildings. Tourists are also permitted to bring their cars via the Kalkkivaara forest vehicle road.
