Suomutunturi Fell - Suomu the Arctic Circle Resort
Suomu is especially known as a small and friendly ski resort where beginners, advanced skiers and freestyle skiers find their favourite runs. Both skating and traditional cross-country ski trails are within minutes of walk from your holiday accommodation.
The slope profiles of Suomu fells are the best in Finland and have been skied on since 1965. Sheltered from the wind and surrounded by forest, the slopes attract enthusiasts year after year to Suomu. Some of these have also grown into skiing world champions and Olympic winners. In the 1960s Finnish VIP already spent their time in Suomu.
HotDog-Skiing, the Grandfather of Freestyle, was in Suomu already in 1970s. The first Finnish Freestyle World Cup Championships was held in Suomu in 1989. Even some freestyle world champions and olympic winners spent their childhood in skiing on Suomu slopes, later with excellent results.
Rising from in front of the traditional ski hotel Suomutunturi, the slopes are quick and demanding. The greatest height difference is 240 metres and the longest slope is 1700 meter. 13 slopes. Small children and just beginners can safely improve their skills and experience on the 400 m practice slope, also free of charge.
There are plans for Suomu Ski Flying Hill and Skiing Centre, please find attachments.
Summertime Suomu is also well worth exploring. By bike you can reach, for instance, the Riutukka Stream Log Floating Museum, Kallioportti, Mooseksenkuru and using the Räisälä Ferry Bridge, the village of Joutsijärvi or the Kemijärvi town centre.
The most famous Finnish National Park "Oulanka" offers many hiking and nature trails, about an hour's drive from Suomu.
Pentik Mäki comprises the factory shop, cafeteria, Rural Memories Exhibition, Old Ceramics Exhibition, the International Coffee Cup Museum and the Pentik Home Museum, just an hour's drive from Suomu.
