On the western end of the Pyhä-Luosto range of fells there is perhaps the world’s largest amethyst mine open to the public. The mine is owned by Arctic Amethyst Ltd. A visit to the mine will be full of magic and tales, something the modern visitor can only dream about.
The cafeteria in Lampivaara and the Small Mine Shop in the centre of the Luosto resort provide services at the mine. The mine is situated about 2,5 km from Luosto village.
Transportation?
You can walk to the mine through an ancient, boreal National Park.. If you use the taxi, please mention "the mine transport". The groups can travel there by bus in the summer season, if agreed beforehand. Transportation may also be arranged if necessary by carriage or sleigh in the wintertime. Suitable in part for persons with mobility restrictions (no access to the mine shaft).
